Global education: What is it and why is it important?
International scholar exchanges: Who benefits?
UC San Diego as a global powerhouse: How did we get here?
This year, for the third year in a row, the "Times Higher Education" ranked the UC San Diego 1st among the world's top "Golden Age" Universities - the "Best 100 Institutions" founded between 1945 - 1966!
UC San Diego is a student-centered, research-focused, service-orientated public research university, welcoming people from around the globe. With annual revenues of $5 billion and an annual $1.2 billion in sponsored research, the institution has grown to 38,000 undergraduate and graduate students. It boasts a vast assembly of world-renowned faculty experts and scholars that drives global change in everything from medicine to everyday consumer products and services.
About our Speaker: UCSD Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla
Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla is an Indian-born internationally renowned electrical and computer engineer recognized for his seminal contributions in secure software, intelligent robot systems, and design. As UC San Diego’s chief executive officer, Chancellor Khosla provides vision and strategy, leading a campus of more than 38,000 students within six undergraduate colleges and 11 academic divisions and graduate schools; a preeminent health system; and the prestigious Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
Khosla has positioned UC San Diego to define the future of the public research university by activating the institution’s first-ever strategic plan and launching the "Campaign for UC San Diego," an ambitious 10-year, $2 billion endeavor aimed at transforming the university physically, intellectually and culturally. $1.85 billion has been raised in less than seven years.
The campus is currently undergoing a $2 billion construction boom to expand classroom and research space and double the number of beds to provide a four-year housing guarantee to undergraduates at 20 percent under market rate.
Under Chancellor Khosla’s leadership, UC San Diego has expanded college access and affordability for underserved students, initiated campus-wide interdisciplinary research initiatives to foster collaboration and solve societal challenges, and strengthened university and community partnerships to drive regional impact.
